Col du Pas de Peyrol Cat2. with walk up to summit of Puy Mary. I took this photo on my cycle tour from Bordeaux to Lyon in July 2010.

Stage 9 finish. 1.5km at 6.1% with a righthand hairpin bend halfway up. Only last 100m is flat.

This stage will be challenging with a lot Cat2&3 climbs a true test for tired legs. Thor will not be in yellow for the rest day on Monday.

Thor will end with them if nobody does a single descent attach tomorrow. Vino tried already but knowing him, he will try again.

Evans is good this year but he wont go to the offensive. Contador doesnt have team together with the schlecks so nothing it will happen there. What would be hilarious is to see Thor going into the offensive and actually getting some profit from it.

I'm calling Thor or Gilbert. I don't think the last Cat 2 climb will be hard paced. They'll push hard for the intermediate sprint points. One of them will be there at the finish. Of, me saying that will probably mean Voeckler or Casar or someone goes out on a long solo breakaway win.

I expect all the GC men to finish together here since it's pretty much downhill after that last Cat 2 climb. It's still going to be a pretty exciting stage as a breakaway will almost assuredly try their luck.

Hoping for Thor to stay in yellow, but I don't know if he'll be able to pull it off. He's a very fast decender, so he does have that in his favor.

Wow. Lots of notables are out. Garate did not start, Van den Broek got broke, and Vino took a very nasty looking crash.

Yeah that crash was horrible, and didn't even get a good view of it.

It looks like unless a huge chase is engaged, Voeckler is going to be in yellow with a lot of time.

2 team leaders off to hospital in one crash. Not a good day for Omega pharma lotto or Astana. What carnage this year with several teams decimated after crashes. The chase is back on now after being neutral for a while.

Vino broken pelvis and femur. I didn't like the guy but that is a sad way to end a career.

DZ broken - broken wrist

Van den Broek - broken shoulder

Just tuned in. All those guys involved in one crash? Vino out from the crash too? I expected to see him up in the breakaway. Anybody have details on it?

Edit: Eurosport reporting a broken femur and possible pelvis for Vino.

It seems like Hoogerland has some clause in his contract saying that he can't ride in the peloton. Every race he's out on the break.

From the live comments, there was a crash at 15:07 at 102km. Evidently on the descent of Puy Mary.

Wow. He really should have gone into the tree instead. Awful. Fortunately it doesn't look like the riders have taken any really bad injuries, though they will be hurting for a while.

He should have just stopped. If he had hit the tree the car very likely would have bounced across the road, taking out the cyclists and the motorcycle.

If that driver was French he might have to change nationalities. He's going to be imortalized like the policeman that Jalabert ran into because he was taking a picture during the sprint.

...are there always so many wrecks? I have watched each day of it so far and each day the wrecks seem to be getting worse...that car incident...ouch...

This is more than normal and more serious than normal.
