    toughest pro mountain bike race

    What is considered the most toughest pro mountain bike race?

    Tour de France, definitely. Huge mountains that must be climbed on bikes, in race format.

    Leadville. Not really a "Pro" race, but plenty of pros compete in it to test test themselves.

    I know its not a mtb race, but thursdays stage took 6 hours. I can't think of many sports which go on for 6 hours with no breaks.
    In the sun for 6 hours, and you do that 6 days a week, for 3 weeks.
    If it was a horse race, animal rights activist would have stopped it years ago.
