Lance & Simeoni

Excuse my ignorance but WHY on TDF 2004 Stage 18, the escapees MINDED the fact that Lance caught up with them (in spite of their dispute), and it was like a threat:
If Simeoni doesn't return to the peloton I'll (Lance) stay with you up with the front leaders?
Why the big deal ?
Doesn't Lance have as much right to chase the leaders and win the stage (if so he desires) ?
Can someone explain this to me? Still not clear to me.

a break has a better chance of staying away if there aren't any high profile riders in it. if lance had stayed, the peloton would have chased them down and it would be simeoni's fault because he didn't do what lance said.

lance has always been an ass. people think just because he survived cancer that he's some kind of superhero, so he uses that to his advantage. you can tell he's a self-absorbed ass when he does interviews. "wearyellow" just makes him look like a nice guy. that's the high price one pays to keep their secrets secret. barry bonds might have learned something from him.

Ok, but then again WHY? is that like a unwritten rule in the TDF ?
High profile riders must let other riders have their way (in other words, let other lesser riders win some stages), once it's understood he's the likely winner of the Tour???

lance has issues with simeoni on a personal/legal level. that's what made it such a big deal. simeoni testified against a doctor who had supplied him with performance-enhancing drugs, and it jsut so happens that this doctor is a good friend of lance(go figure). so lance let his personal issues get in the way of the race, which is quite unprofessional and also helps fan the "lance has a secret" flame.

if i was simeoni and lance tried to pull that crap on me, i would have decked his ass right off his bike and then stopped to beat the hell out of him.

Wasn't it about what he SAID to Simeoni ... supposedly something along the lines of "I have money and lawyers. I'm going to bury you"? Or was he supposed to have said that at some other time?

Sorry to be persistent guys, but I'm passed the Lance & Simeoni's ordeal, forget Lance and Simeoni for a minute:
Why the Yellow Jersey CAN'T chase the leaders at that point of the TDF, in this case: Stage 18 ????
Why would the leader pack protest to see (any) Yellow Jersey among them ?

Hope tha's more clear....

maybe that was the gist of it, but i wasn't aware that lance speaks italian and i've never seen simeoni speak english. seems clear that whatever was said, the message got through.

well thats certainly true in todays TdF where the leader can't fart without team support, but back
in the day, Eddy (the REAL cannibal) would chase down a break on his own, and then drop em like
a bad habit. Anquetil was known to almost kill himself to stop Poulidor from taking a stage win.
The history is there, but alas, those halcyon days of cycling are long gone. . . .

because the peloton isn't going to let the yellow jersey break away. the break could have worked but because lance chased simeoni it wasn't going to happen.

well that's what i sort of addressed in my first post. it's because the main pack with all of the contenders wouldn't want lance to get more time on them. so his presence in the break means the break will be caught for sure. the guys who were already in the break wanted to have a chance to win the stage, but that wouldn't happen as long as lance was there taking care of his own business. the guys in the break were pissed at simeoni, because he was going to be the cause of them getting caught. lance wasn't there to try and win the stage.

I dunno who speaks what! Simeoni claims to have understood something though like you said.

"Simeoni was quoted by Gazzetta as saying that while he rode with Armstrong, the Texan said, “You made a mistake to speak against Ferrari, and you made a mistake to take legal action against me. I have money and time and lots of lawyers. I can destroy you.”"

There will be no Lance @ this year's Giro for sure now. The Italians want an Italian winner, regardless. Apparently, they'll get their wish again. However, wouldn't it be great to see Armstrong, and Cunego going @ it, eh?

Apparently, it's only going to happen in my dreams now.

No, I thought it was a good post.
the only point I was making was that this used to happen
all the time (well not ALL the time, but it happened).
and No, Jan would not have waited. Tyler would be busy
trying to control the whole thing (while transfusing) and
Jan would have said "auf Weidersain" or however you spell that.

Lance can box. He would have kicked Simeoni's hind end unless he knows some sort of secret kung fu or something.
