Why did Horner ride with George on to the Champs-Élysées?

I understand and appreciate the fact that the peloton encouraged George to get some recognition and glory by leading them on to the Champs-Élysées.

Can anyone explain why Chris Horner rode with him.

Thanks.

Maybe George asked him to.

If you want a guess, Horner has decided to retire, and George invited him along for the ride.

Och cleared it for George with the SKY boss before the stage started... I don't know what arrangement Horner had.

I'll say though, that this was a LAME retirement gesture. When Eki did it, he sprinted ahead until he got a good gap, then he sat up and saluted the crowd and waited for the peloton to catch back to him. George and Chris just looked like they were making a pretend attack and it didn't work.

Hincape was not all that entusiastic about it but accepted the honor when presented to him by Sky. Hincapie is not big on self promtion or grandstanding.

I have no clue, but I thought it made Horner look kind of dumb and stole the show from George. It was what, Horner's 3rd Tour? Even if he was retiring, big whoop, he spent most of his career in the US.

Actually, it was his 6th Tour.

And yes, he spent half his career in the US, but there has never been anyone that dominant in the States.

Horner should have pulled out a twinkie and ate it while he was on camera.

If he worked out a deal with hostess he could have made some money.
