I suppose it beats flipping burgers.

They don't get much money, but they get to ride their bikes all the time and don't forget the status . . .

Hard way to make a living. And, with the exception of about 50-75 guys in the whole world, you'll never make the type of money that anyone would associate with being rich.

A lot of U.S. domestic pros could make more money flipping burgers, particularly on an hourly basis.

I'm not surprised. This is pretty common amount fringe sports (sports not largely followed by the general public). If you make any kind of living wage you're doing very well. I play disc golf and they have a pro tour as well and their top guys will take in $50k in prize money per year and maybe another $5-10K in endorsements and free gear. The top few guys in pro LaCross make $80-$100K.

Those $1m salaries don't come up often outside of major sports like football, baseball, basketball, tennis, hockey, golf and soccer.
