Olympic time trials
 

The women's time trial starts at 12:30 London time Wednesday and is over a 29 km course. The men's time trial starts at 14:15 Wednesday and is over a 44 km course. Competitors start at 90 second intervals for both. Subtract 5 hours to get Eastern time in North America.

I can't find anything that gives the order of the competitors. Anyone know how it is determined? In the grand tours it is reverse order of overall standing but I have no idea how they do it for the Olympics.

Cancellara goes last as the defending champ. Not sure how they figured the rest, but they have most of the favorites stacked towards the end.

I don't know how they figure out the start times either, but looking at the order it looks as if it might be some sort of seeding system based on this year's performances, adjusted so there is a spread of nationalities?

Can't see past Wiggo for the mens race, which almost certainly means that Tony Martin will have a really good day. LOL. Arndt must have a great chance in the women's race.

Watching the time trial now and the announcer said start times are based on world rankings except that the Olympic champion goes last.

Wiggins for the Gold destroying the rest of the field. I still have to believe something is fishy when Wiggins beats everyone else by those margins. Good for Great Britian (their first gold, I believe), but I will not be surprised if at some point we find out Sky (including Wiggins and Froome) have been up to no good. "Superhuman Riding' as they said on the NBC feed. Superhuman....Yup, I believe that.

womens rowing won gold too. Innocent until proven guilt, in my great country anyway. Wiggins is fast becoming a legend, great ride, great rider, great country.

Excellent performance from Wiggins. A pity, in a way, that Martin and Cancellara clearly aren't quite at their best, but he can only beat what is put in front of him. That's quite a season he's had.

Not trolling here. Cacellara obviously wasn't 100% recently, but was he ever better than wiggins is right now? I think this is interesting to think about.

Just think how fast he would be if he lost those sideburns!

Yes

Arguable, and close, but yes, probably. And if you look at Martin last year, when he beat Wiggins and an admittedly sub-par Cancellara by a massive margin at the Worlds, he too could argue that at his best he was up there where Wiggins is now.

It was kind of a strained moment between Wiggins and Martin at the Thrones. Not a word, no eye contact between the two and Wiggins went on to take his victory lap.

Its a good job he did not hear what wiggo said afterwards.......effectively that every other medal is worthless, it is gold or nothing.......bet froome thought he had done well til he heard that little gem?

Great race by Wiggo today, easily earning the gold.

But he really is the iceman. He makes Kimi Raikonnen look downright jubilant. Does he even enjoy winning? He seem's so clinical, scientific, unemotional and just so blase about it all. Maybe he enjoys the moment in private, I don't know. Unless I missed it, I thought he could have done a better job of saluting the massive home crowd that came out to support him today(great job by the Brit fans!). I felt bad for Cancellara today and I think the sport will miss his animated, good humored personality as champion.

To be fair, that was in response to a fawning question about him being the UK's greatest ever Olympian, and was followed by an oblique reference to his having only four gold medals to Steve Redgrave's five.

Meant to say earlier that one has to feel sorry for Luis Leon Sanchez. Of all the moments when one does not want a snapped chain, rolling off the ramp at the start of the Olympic TT must be up there. I might have a few choice words for the mechanic, in his position...

EDiT : Giacomo, you probably didn't see his post-race interview with the BBC. He said that having won the Tour and now the Olympic TT in his home town, he knew that nothing he could achieve in the future could top this. Not exactly in tears, but hey - we are British, after all. We don't do effusive. LOL
