Anyone remember Lance getting into scuffle in 94 or 95 Tour?

I've been recording the Tour since about 93 and I remember Lance throwing a couple of punches with someone in one of the stages. I'm curious if anyone remembers the details.

You have been recording since '93.
Go back and watch your copies and relate the story to us.

I remember Lance getting into a shoving match, but I can't remember the year or with whom.

Happens lots. Riders tend to know when the cameras are around, so you don't often see it on TV.

that was '96 Tour...the year he got sick and quit the tour...and then a few weeks later they found the mass in his testicle. He wasn't feeling well or performing well....and so he was just frustrated. There was a crash and Lance went down with some other riders. It was a rainy miserable stage. As tangled bikes were being pulled apart...words were exchanged and it sems Lance and another rider postured a bit and seemed to be ready to go to blows...but there wasn't really all that much to it. Anyway, that's how I remember it.

Thanks for the info. I had already started scanning through a stack of about 30 tapes beginning with the 94 tour. It actually was the day before he abandoned when he got caught at the back behind a crash. It was with a Lotto rider named Gill something. No punches just shoving but pretty funny to see Lance get bowed up in the ready to fight position. And from watching all these old tapes I'm reminded how much better the coverage has gotten.

I looked it up on cyclingnews.com it was Stage five from Lac de Madine to Besancon- the stage was won by Joroen Blijlevens. THe other guy was Gilles Bouvard; there was a huge pileup abut 70km from the finish and somehow he and lance almost came to blows. THat year was a crash fest- a huge crash in lac de madine took out a few, including Laurent Brochard. Jan Svorada bailed in in stage five because he'd also crashed the day before, and Cipollini bailed as well, but he was sick. Servais Knaven and Ivan gotti also bailed. Lance bailed the next day, along with 16 other guys. THe weather was horrendous,so lance assumed he had bronchitis like half the other guys.

Thanks for looking it up wabbit. I vaguely remembered it, and it seemed like a "heat of the moment" shoving match, and little more.

Most of the supposed fights are just shoving matches.. There much better when the shoving matches happen when there riding the bikes.. I have only seen one punch during a race, of course it was between 2 of my team mates that just hated each other and decided to start throwing punches during a criterium..

I have tapes just converted to dvd of old Tour de France - 1985 through 1991.. It's pretty cool seeing everyone but Hinault in clips and straps in 1985..

I remember a couple of years ago in the GIro,I think it was 2003. One of the guys from Polsat clonked Petacchi on the head while they were all lining up for a sprint. Everyone was battling for Cipollini's wheel. I think the Polsat guy was ejected from the race. That was a great Giro!

I vaguely remember seeing a helicopter shot of a couple of riders duking it out while rounding a corner in the Vuelta a couple of years ago. BTW, anyone still got that video of the two guys skating around in their cycling shoes and cleats trying to land punches? That was the funniest clip I've ever seen.

Wasn't that Cassagrande in the Giro 2 or 3 years back? got
ejected for taking a swing at someone?
Lance and Robbie McEwan got into it verbally a few times,
with Robbie threatening to stuff his fist down Lances throat.
Surprized the Italian court didn't prosecute him for it

Oh... maybe it was the Giro. I don't remember if the riders got ejected in the incident I saw. They were throwing punches in the middle of the peloton. I do recall reading about Cassagrande punching a fan.

Casagrande punched Freddy Garcia, who at the time was the Colombian national champ. It was 2002, the year Salvodelli won. I remember Garcia sitting there with blood all over his face showing the officials how Casagrande had punched him. Of course Casagrande was out and so was Garcia. I don't recall what exactly brought it on, sounded like Casagrande was under a lot of pressure or something and took it out on Garcia. Also that year Simoni and Garzelli were tossed, Pantani bailed, and so most of the major contenders were gone. Belli was the one who punched one of the fans who got in his face. I think it was 2001?

It was in the sprint for some KOM points. Casagrande felt boxed in by Fredy so he biffed him. Totally unacceptable.

Haha. C***st, they are pathetic. No wonder we all get harassed by motorists etc. Noone thinks bikers can land a punch.

I liked the 360 spin move though.
