Katusha back in the WorldTour

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/cas-...ce-for-katusha

So what happens now? Will the UCI kick out one team or bump up to 19? If so, which team gets the boot?

This has to be hard on the organizers for a race like Gent-Wevelgem where they have already invited all their teams and Katusha wasn't one of them.

the UCI decision was absurd, and it could only cause havoc with sponsors, atheletes, teams, and now that it has been rightfully reversed, race organizers as well...i am glad to see Katusha and Purito back as a world tour team...I hope the world tour is adjusted to have 19teams, or if any team is kicked out, that it'd be granted invitations to all the major races...the UCI just doesn't want to help themselves...

Maybe they'll put Radio Shack out of their misery.

The whole thing is just so weird. The UCI is weird, and they do weird things.

GV brings up a good point here: https://gerard.cc/2013/02/15/uci-vs-cas/

8 man teams would be nice

I brought something similar like a month ago maybe that they should be teams of 6 so they could add more teams in each race, the other thing is that the race will get somehow more even, the bad part is that logistically speaking is complicated because of the cars and motorcycles. More vehicles than before.

They will ditch the team that took katusha's place??

I doubt Saxo/Tinkoff will be kicked out since Alberto Contador is there. Could the UCI leave the teams as they are and take away one Continental spot from each World Tour race?

agreed, but since his points don't count I'm not sure what grounds they would use to justify their continued presence. Of course the UCI doesn't seem too concerned about things like 'rules' and 'rationale' anyways.

right now, i'd be worried if i were wearing an argos-shimano jersey (or fdj). Although, an interesting approach would be to follow their guidelines and kick Saxo off, and have all races invite them in so they can have Contador in the peloton...

So apparently they now have 19 Pro Tour teams. Seems ok to me.

Like Vaughters said, there wasn't a reasonable alternative. I'd love to see 8-man teams, but I would be very surprised if things go that route. Most races will probably just take away one wildcard invitation. Bad news for the pro continental teams. I hope Vini Fantini doesn't miss out on too many races. I really enjoy their kit.

The Tour and Veulta are both going down to 3 wildcards instead of 4 (https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/vuel...dcards-in-2013).

The Giro is in a difficult position. It has already invited 4 wildcards (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia, Colombia, Bardiani Valvole-CSF Inox and Androni-Venezuela), so if it keeps all 4 teams plus Katusha, Acquarone says that will cost more than €150,000. We know the UCI won't offer to pay €1 of that.
