Personally I think he should quit while he's ahead rather than Emmitt Smith ing his way out

Lance's at the top of his game right now. Emmit's legs are done.

Lance already has the record, and isn't getting any younger. Why cheapen the legacy?

He's already said he's contractually obligated to do another Tour de France, he didn't specify whether he'd do THIS Tour de France.

Isn't Lance only 32. He won by 4 minutes last year, I'd say his chances this year are strong given last years stomping.

    Go Lance!

Hope to see Beloki back and competitive again. If there was ever a time in Lance's prior tours where I believe he could have lost..it was the year that Beloki crashed out. He was so strong and aggressive. I have never seen Beloki look that good. Then came the crash. I wonder what would have happened had Beloki not crashed. That was the year that Lance barely beat Ullrich...so you know maybe Beloki would have been right there in the hunt. Of all of Lance's past rivals..perhaps Beloki was the one true threat...just before the crash. Even Lance said so himself.

He has ALWAYS said that he will "go for 7". However, he intends to build the maximum amount of suspense as to WHICH year he will "go for 7".

I'm betting it will be in 2006 or 2007. What better story than to "retire" from riding in the Tour, then make a big "comeback" by riding against, and defeating, the 2005 winner?

Nah - he's gonna do it this year - that was my interpretation. New sponsor, no doubt a lot of incentive (read $$$$$). And, Ulrich wants him there. Badly.

Good show, though. I'd never watched Oprah before. Could have used a little more cycling talk, but it is a woman's show. I liked watching him ride w/ one leg against Oprah. Need to try that sometime.

So let me get this straight since I missed the show. He didn't specify whether he'll race this July or not?

    Who's Emmit Smith?

Anyways, I guess you can't stop him, although I don't really see the point in another tour. If I were him I'd want to take some time to chill by the ocean or pick up banjo playing or something. But I guess that's why he's a 6 time tour champion, and I'm sitting here thinking how great it would be to be kicking it with a margarita in Hawaii, wishing I knew how to play the banjo.

I watched the show. He did say he is doing a 7. But he also stated that he is ready to settle down and be with his children by 34. I believe he is 32 yrs.

I'd like to see him go out hard and scare the crap out of everyone else...then, when nobody else is looking- WHAM! Discovery sends another member out front on a crazy attack only to stay away because everyone is worried about LA. That rider (whoever it is- Hincapie maybe) goes on to defend the Maillot Juane and win the tour.

Lance as a domestique at the top of his career would be something nobody could argue against. Imagine that. That would be one of those truly sportsmanlike things professional cycling sees from time to time. The record stays in tact and everyone can't stop promoting the gentlemanly nature of cycling.

    Just my pipe dream.

It would be pretty shocking to see Hincapie in yellow in Paris... but it would be soooooo cool!

I'm in for the "Seventh from Heaven" tour. The key here is Consecutive tours, he'll be 33 this year. However, I agree that if Beloki races it's sure to be a race to end all races. With an inspiration like Crow, How can he loose?

    He's doing #7 this year.

You know, as a fan of both LA and the sport I was hoping to see him compete different races. 6 was the magic number, what noone, even champions with many more overall victories had never been able to do. 6 made him the all time TdF great. I think LA's first (fill in race name here) might just be cooler than a 7th Tour. Not that 7 would be insignificant but, IMO, not as memorable as his first win in a race he's never won or perhaps even entered. My .02 FWIW.

One thing is sure the only way we'll see more races on OLN is if LA is there and there's some other races I'd really like to see.
