I really don't see how you could interpret what I have written here in that way. However, absolutely agree with you about the archaism. And to my surprise, I find that some of the cycling writers appear to agree, too. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog...s-bum-pinching

I look forward to a day when he tries this again and she turns round and slaps him hard. Public humiliation is what he needs.

    Slapping is always an option.

As far as "reforming" traditions goes: We could demand that boxing gives up it's strutting round card girls too.
Let's see how far you get with THAT.

here are some viewing tips for viewing feeds available on steephill.tv: the first thing is to ignore ALL the popups and prompts telling you that you need to download some sort of viewer. if you notice, the feed is playing behind those popups and you just need to get rid of them. but if you click the X or "close" buttons those are just decoys to download malware or whatever they are. instead, just click the "full screen" button in the lower right hand corner, and the video feed will extend to the full screen and the popups will go away (until you exit full screen). also, I noticed that one of the feeds labeled Dutch was actually Eurosport English: http://sports-livez.com/sopcast/sop-3.php so I got to watch the whole race in my native tongue. who knows if that link will last, but sure worked well today! I'm not sure if ass grabbing podium girls has a precedent but it's possible a 23yr old earning a million dollars and is one of the top cyclists in the world might not be too concerned about his performance off the bike when he is rewarded for his performance on the bike.

I agree if she backhanded him it would be something he needed to learn about how to act professionally.

Think about it folks! That girl could well be more educated/accomplished than Sagan, or just a hardworking girl, but we'll never know. All because this crude guy decided to grab her ass in front of the whole world. I like Sagan, but this dubious move made me angry. The crassness of it, and also taking away from Spartacus glorious ride and win.

It was not Sagan's day, and he had no right to ruin it for Spartacus by insulting the podium girl in such a crass way.

I use 'adblock' on firefox, it blocks all those nasty pop up adverts as well as all the good adverts too. Its a surprise to me that anyone can be happy to use the internet with out it. hope that helps in time for roubaix!

It just means you are leaving the town. There's another one on the other side, facing the opposite direction that doesn't have the red line through it. Same thing on the other side of town.

great performance by Fabian on the men's race and Vos, winning it for the first time, on the women's race!!! wonder if fabian can pull a double at paris-roubaix...he has the form to do it, and sagan can serve as a pretty big decoy for the peloton...anyone know if Boonen is well enough to race?

Well I sort of agree, but it's a job. My job is to make things out of metal, her job is to look pretty and be part of the podium ceremony. It's okay to want to be pretty, and it's okay to accept a job that's being offered to you. It's not like she's wearing lingerie, she's wearing nothing more 'sexy' than lots of women do walking down main street/Robson/Granville (in Van).

It's not okay to grab someone who doesn't want to be grabbed.

It's certainly worthwhile to wonder why the job exists in the first place though.

Absolutely. In most states in the U.S. it would be a low level of sexual asault, typically a misdemeanor.

However, is it possible Sagan has a relationship with the woman? The riders aren't supposed to fraternize with the podium women, but it happens.

If she was Sagan's girlfriend, their could be some implied consent that could take the conduct from criminal to just boorish.
You could fall off a cliff and die.
You could get lost and die.
You could hit a tree and die.
OR YOU COULD STAY HOME AND FALL OFF THE COUCH AND DIE.

Sounds like the sponsor didn't see the humour either:

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/saga...landers-podium

"I sincerely apologize to Maya for what I did on the podium yesterday after the race," said Sagan in English in the video posted on Facebook. "It was wrong of me, and I wasn't thinking when I was on the podium. I never should have done that. I'm so sorry and I hope that Maya and anyone else I have offended knows how how sorry I am."

Don't get so wound up. Men have been grabbing women's asses since the dawn of time. No amount of commentary or lawsuits will change that. FWIW, she applied for that job, interviewed for it, and accepted it. Nobody forced her into it, just like nobody is forced into porn. Can we go back to talking about bike racing again?

Screw those guys... I'm getting a Cycling.TV subscription - $30 for three months will cover Flanders, Roubaix, Amgen, Giro and more. I think I saw something about a free trial if somebody only wants one race.

    Edit: No live coverage though
    Sunday March 31, 2013
Recap will be available on demand after the race finishes.

Another edit: No AMGEN... to hell with Cycling.tv too. This sucks.
Cycling.TV is decent, but they often don't show races in North America that are offered by Universal Sports or Versus, so you're still a bit limited. I still, for the life of me, can't figure out why those boneheads at Comcast don't want subscription revenue from fans and instead want to force cable companies to carry Universal or offer fans nothing and get no revenue in return. Just makes no sense to me.

I'm not sure who's getting 'wound up', but having your ass grabbed is not part of the job description for a podium girl. And yes, Sagan essentially did 'force' her into having her ass grabbed.

It seems that with streaming technology and smart TVs it should be pretty simple to set up some kind of buffet of services for a reasonable price. The Eurovision torrent was fine coverage (Sean Kelly is fun to listen to), but it was crappy quality video.

As for Sagan - I think he's suffering from spoiled, privledged, elite athlete syndrome. Hopefully this latest kerfluffle helps him mature a bit.

Really? Have you seen this job description? FWIW, lots of job descriptions don't include risks of things that you might be exposed to during the course of the job. For example, my job description doesn't specifically mention that I might be exposed to things that might cause cancer, but that is a risk. Everyone that does my job knows that, otherwise we'd all be stocking the fruit section at Whole Foods.

What I'm trying to say is, it's time for everyone to climb down from their politically correct high-horse and get back to talking about bikes. The guy is very young, it was done in fun, and he didn't mean anything by it. I think most guys did stupid crap like that in their early 20s. I know I did. Can't we just let it go and move on?

That's really an argument you want to have? Try something for me: say that out loud and tell me if it makes sense to you. Like, actually makes sense, and it's not just something stupid you feel like posting for whatever reason.

Oh, and...I don't know. Can you let it go? It doesn't seem so.
