Chris Froome and the Criterium International

I was surprised that Chris Froome took a flyer and left the yellow jersey to fend for himself. I know that he was chasing a one or two man breakaway but one they were caught and dropped should he have waited for Porte (who was the only rider behind him) and brought him to the finish line?

If he had waited, we'd all be here talking about how Tejay scored his first major GC victory.

It's called team riding. Froome rides off the front and forces other teams to chase. Porte doesn't have to work because the other teams can pull him up. The other teams are reluctant to pull up Porte because they know he can sit on them if he wants and wait until the last moment to pull past and win.
Perfect strategy which ensured the win for Sky.

I'm guessing that you didn't watch the race.. Not only did Froome win the stage (the last stage) but he also took the yellow jersey and won.

I watched it and understood it.
I honestly have no idea what you fail to understand here.
Read this article, then come back here if you have more questions.

Porte and Froome were perfectly candid after the race. At the start of the final stage Porte was in yellow and Froome was fourth, but only two seconds behind. They agreed that whichever of them had the legs would go for it on the climb and the other would block. Hd Porte gone with Froome he would probably have towed Tejay along for a while, still lost, but compromised Froome's chances of winning. As it was he was able to wait until Froome was sure of the win and then go away from the rest for a Sky one-two.

What's to understand? It was a brilliant team performance. The way Froome and Porte and Uran and Wiggins are climbing, I'm thinking the Tour is going to be mighty interesting.
