Gavia and Stelvio cut from stage 19 of the Giro
Couldn't they do mountain top finishes on the Gavia and the Stelvio and just Bus them down the other side? Heck they've done this bus transfer bit during this yrs Milan-San Remo already. They're set up for timing at the top of those passes. All they would have to do is re-route the team buses. Maybe not on the Gavia because there's not a big parking lot for all the team vehicles but the Stelvio has all the parking room you need...?

it's a bummer. makes me wonder if many of the olden epic rides-the andy hampsten ride in 1988 over the gavia comes immediately to mind-would be eliminated/impossible
during today's cycling climate. glad the cyclists are being looked out for but seems like the legendary rides shaped by horrid weather are a thing of the past.

Stage 19 = Rest Day...stage canceled due to weather. Video from the start shows heavy snow, about 1' of accumulation on the ground. What a bummer. Evans might be breathing a sign of relief though, given the scant 10 second lead he has over Uran Uran.

This has been the unluckiest grand tour in memory. Bad weather and illness. Awesome performance by Nibali, though.

While I enjoy watching the battles over mountain stages and disappointed that we will not view these epic climbs. I am however glad that the safety of the riders now comes first and common sense is being practiced.
I think it will not be lost on racing or Giro Fans that the performance of Nibali has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Andy Hampsten says they've all gone soft.

Good to cancel the stage. I read somewhere that ice near the tops of each climb was the reason. It wasn't a situation where this was a minor or freak snowstorm. Hasn't the Alps/Dolomites seen an unusually long snow season? Certainly this Giro.
