The day starts easy with a long and gradual descent of some 60-70km.
The next 60km becomes a progressively more steep ascent of Sella Ciampigotto. That said, it should not be so difficult that it will split up the remaining GC contenders. Similarly, despite Wiggins poor recent performances, the descent should not be technical enough that it will split the bunch. Also, the weather forecast expects dry roads, so no issues there.
Instead, the real action will take place on the final climb. It isn't a true summit finish, but it won't take much of a gap for somebody to stay away. Should be a spectacular climax as the GC contenders try to mingle with the puncheurs. If Cadel is going to rob this Giro from Nibali, tomorrow is possibly the day to do it. Watch out for Betancur suddenly disappearing up the hill.
sorry. i should have added the words "relatively unknown" to the "italian mountain goat on one of the continental teams" phrase.
love pellizotti's aggressiveness as a rider but he's been pretty quiet so far. gotta believe he's gonna have a serious go in one of the
upcoming med/high mtn stages.
