With the Tour just around the corner no one wants to get in on the fantasy game?

merlinextraligh 06-18-13 09:24 AM

I'm in. People likely don't want to make/disclose picks yet.

You can sign up though, and then change rosters later before the start.

eddiepliers 06-18-13 01:46 PM

I'm in..

mdphoto 06-19-13 06:31 PM

You cannot see anyone's team until after the race starts.

SpeshulEd 06-19-13 08:21 PM

I'm in...my buddy did one today too, so I figured I might as well join this one too.

Afghanistan Afghans! (not that I'm a terrorist or a war mongerer just a fan of blankets, ha!)

slcbob 06-20-13 12:23 PM

I'm in. I hope to improve on what was a very unpredictable Giro.

Cycling News is running a fantasy game, too. It's a little more work but has some possibilities. Info below, and I've created a mini league there, too. If you only do one, do velogames, but why not do both?

Go to the game at http://fantasy.cyclingnews.com and go to 'Register to Play', pick your team then use the ‘Mini-League Admin' option to join the mini-league.

The details you need are:
League Name:
Bike Forums B Side
League password:
boaslap

diphthong 06-20-13 02:46 PM

in. should be a hoot! quite a few entries in the league already with over a week to go...maybe we'll get 50+ entries?

mdphoto 06-20-13 06:14 PM

Thanks for the info on the Cyclingnews league. I'm in.

I'm in, here as "Singing Indurain", and on Cycling News as "Freddy Merckxury".

Boothe85 06-20-13 07:38 PM

1st time fantasy tour player here. Team Spin to win

SpeshulEd 06-20-13 10:18 PM

I've changed my entries 3 times already and I just entered yesterday. I haven't even watched the Tour de Suisse yet, I could change everything again.

I gotta say tho, Froome and Porter were looking really dood in the Du Duaphine.

Good luck. You'll usually see me at the bottom; hence, this time I am the Failboat.

Boothe85 06-21-13 04:02 PM

Well I follow the cycling action I can catch on NBCsports, and one or two obscure sports stations, but I don't ever get a chance to catch the other races online, so I am using what little knowledge i know from watching what I can for the last 4 years to benchmark this first attempt. I am sure I will be right there with you, lol.

SpeshulEd 06-21-13 07:47 PM

If you don't mind bit torrent, cyclingtorrents.nl is pretty awesome. It's not the same as watching in real time, but its nice to watch the race with all the commercials removed...and it's nice to actually see the race rather than 58 minutes of hockey crap and 2 minutes of cycling before the dvr kicks off.

i think i've changed my roster 8+ times already...knew i shoulda waited until the day before. got a case of yellow (jersey) fever.

slcbob 06-23-13 06:04 AM

Oh, the agony of choice. Sagan or Cavendish. Tough to do both unless you're going to abdicate on the GC side where all the big points are. Should be a heckuva contest.

eddiepliers 06-23-13 06:12 AM

I also put a team up on nrtoone. Does anyone know if there are group comps available there kinda like Velogames is?

Creatre 06-24-13 08:41 AM

I'm in!

Kind of Blued 06-24-13 09:53 AM

Honestly, the Vuelta last year was fireworks, and the Tour was kind of a joke. The exact opposite this year. So many good riders and unpredictable stages. I foresee much lamenting over missed opportunities, but general excitement over how great of a race this is going to be.

merlinextraligh 06-24-13 10:58 AM

One key is keeping an intact squad. What are the odds Rolland pops positive between now and the end of the tour?

About the same as any of the other riders.

merlinextraligh 06-24-13 11:34 AM

^ the way the Dauphine ended for him seems rather suspicuous.

That is one of the things that I've been teeter-tottering on. Should I have him on and he gets it and I lose out? Argh, damn risks and I'm sick of being at the end..

Sure.

Is there a pro cyclist that you are not suspicious about?

I honestly picked Rolland for the Tour solely because of his sketchy behaviour lately. It's the same reason I picked Santambrogio ahead of the Giro this year, and he scored me TONS of cheap points. It turns out that I'm just good and attentive, which, along with luck, is the other part of doing well in this Fantasy Sports thing.

It's not unsportsmanlike if I'm not the one cheating, and I'm upfront about my tactics, right? ;)

Dudelsack 06-25-13 06:50 PM

I picked people at random. I bet my team will suck. At least I think my name is OK.

Joined here as Rathmines Roadmen.

Two unrelated observations:

1) in the CyclingNews league announced here, once you join there's an annoying requirement for me to accept your join. I can't find a way to make it an open league. I will click you in ASAP.

2) Velogames' policy on dopers is that the scoring is finalized for the stage that night, and you keep your points. A doper DQ only costs you the future stages that they don't ride once thrown out. If they don't pop until weeks later, c'est la vie. Santambroggio was money for the Giro.
