Tour de France - Stage 2, Jun 30, Bastia - Ajaccio, 156km

Wow, what a day yesterday! Let's hope the drama remains cycling-related rather than bus-related today.

Medium mountain stage, promises to be a real visual treat if yesterday was anything to go by. Three Cat 3 climbs, and one Cat 2 climb.

Stage profile:

Last km:

Difficult stage, made easier by the fact that the top of the final climb is about 60km from the finish. This will bring Cavendish and the other normal sprinters back into contention, but Sagan is still the out and out favourite. Not difficult enough to make the GC riders interested, so the green jersey battle continues today.

Maybe a very, very outside chance of some hardman from a smaller team attacking on the Cote du Salario, 1km at 8.9%, 12km from the finish. If only Vini Fantini were still here, Santambrogio or Di Luca perhaps...

Tony Martin is continuing?!?! If I had a bruised lung I'd probably do nothing more than lay in bed.

I'm also majorly concerned that he suffered a concussion, and actually lost consciousness on the team bus after the stage. He was taken to hospital and has been cleared by the relevant medical professionals, but it would shock nobody for a team doctor to not show due care for rider's health.

Also, if I was out there, I would certainly not want to be cycling close to him.

Just saw Tony Martin pass by the camera, he looks like a mummy. I have no respect for OPQS for letting him race. I know well that he would want to, if anyone can put mind over matter it's him, but the team really should put their foot down when you've a rider who has as many injuries as him.

Riders starting to drop out the back, including Cav. He'll have to work hard to get back on, could lose a lot of time here. FDJ setting a hard pace at the front, so I assume Bouhanni (!) is getting up fine.

Tommy Voeckler making a good attack!

Kittel also losing touch.

Bouhanni IS still onboard the peloton, FDJ doing their best Sky impression. Also there is Kristoff of Katusha, a real dangerman.

Blel Kadri the only man up the road, a seriously strong climber.

Lots of uphill still to go. Tommy V has been reeled back in by FDJ.

Plenty of riders trying it on on the Solario! Flecha and Gautier making a gap, peloton worried. Fantastic racing.

Talk about suffering! In the final kilometer, Bakelants tried to stand twice to sprint. Each time he had to sit after about three strokes. He didn't know he was going to win until he crossed the line. Great job and an exciting finish.

It wouldn't be a proper Tour without a dog incident.

Let's hope that's the worst of the runaway dogs for this year! I agree that today's finish was exceptional; I was on the edge of my seat and was glad to be watching live. To bad tomorrow is Monday and I have to go to work.

I thought for sure that dog was going to take out the peloton.

Awesome win for Baekelants. The camera shot showing him struggling to get to the line while the sprinters charging like wild bulls behind was intense. I've seen riders get caught in the last 50m or less but not this time!

What a great stage today!

If ever a rider deserved a stage win, it was Bakelants. Imagine if he had turned around and saw that freight train coming at him? He would have fallen over in fright!

Sagan is the man though. He can sprint with the best of them, yet climb with the best to.

Well done by Bakelants, and getting that 0:01 to get Yellow. Sorry if I won't shed a tear for David Millar not getting it...

Froome messing around on the last climb haha, he's just playing with these guys. When he does actually attack, he's gonna put 2' on the field with ease. AC didn't look so great the day after his crash, face looked in pain at times, but Cuddles looked really calm. He could podium, which would be a great accomplishment for an "old guy".

Cavendish didn't get the yellow jersey yesterday but shares the "red" jersey at the end of today's stage...

Hesjedal led the peloton for a short time in an effort to catch the breakaway. Too bad for Garmin that it was not enough because Miller would have been in yellow. Too bad for Sagan because he would have won the stage. Kudos to Bakelants for holding them off.
