Tour de France - Stage 5, Wed Jul 3, Cagnes- Marseilles, 228km

Stunning win by Orica today. What a TDF we're having compared with the early bore-fest last year. Hope it doesn't change a bit.

Theoretically at least, this is one for the sprinters. 4 categorised climbs on the route, but none of them particularly challenging. OPQS will certainly try their best to stay on the front all day long. Argos Shimano didn't trouble themselves at all in the TTT, so they may be seriously eyeing up the stage for Degenkolb. If Orica have anything left in the tank, their morale is through the roof right now and would bite your arm off to get three in a row. There is an outside chance of a breakaway staying ahead til the finish if they go off late on one of the climbs. GC riders not likely to be interested.

I hope Cavendish is getting over what's ailing him; his team has a good shot at a win on this stage. As does Greipel and Sagan. The way Gerrans won the sprint the other day, he looks to have a good shot, too.

Being in yellow, Orica will control the pace plus they want to do so to set up their sprinter. I look for a crazy fast stage with the other sprint teams not helping at all until late in the stage. They'll want Orica to use as much energy as possible. OPQS, AS, Lotto, etc may even be sneaky and send somebody in the breakaway. Well, I doubt it but it would be interesting to see.

I think there will be a break away with a chance of one winning. some main contenders from the GC lost quite a bit of time after yesterdays TTT and might be looking at pulling it back.
Some others who are sitting pretty I think will just take it easy (if you can call it that lol)

Soccer is on all the live feeds right now... so even the Euro TV broadcasts don't cover every hour of the TdF?

On flatter stages they typically pick up the feeds one or two hours in. Live coverage on British Eurosport today starts at 1145 gmt.
There have been many days when I haven't felt like riding, but there has never been a day when I was sorry I rode.

Intermediate sprint is over and Kittel was nowhere to be seen. Has he given up the chase for green?

Sagan picked up some points though, and it's going to be tough to beat him now I think, because he is the only sprinter that can consistently get over the climbs...

    Yeah, I saw that to!

It's amazing how much trouble the enthusiastic fans of the TDF can get themselves into...

They say he can actually heal while he is riding, so he just has to stick with it and hopefully things will get better for him. Gutsy for sure!

Why is Orica still pacing the peloton?

Time for the sprint teams to catch this breakaway...

Sagan beats Griepel in a flat sprint. Griepel even had a lead out though not a very good one, vs Sagan was in the wind. What an awesome rider that kid is.

Somebody told me the other day that Cavendish is a "one trick pony". But it's a hell of a trick, isn't it?

Terrific sprint from Eddy the Boss, today, going past Sagan and Greipel. He clearly has good form, too.

Today took a serious toll. Bouet out. Vandevelde and Bouhanni serious doubts. Hesjedal, Zubeldia and Kessiakoff also took bumps.

Looks like Hesjedal's rib fracture happened on stage 1. Jeezus I hope this guy can stay out of any more trouble through this at least.
