Stronger vs. Smarter

Stage 13: Tinkoff just said that Froom is stronger than Contador, but Saxo-Tinkoff is smarter team :)
So, is he correct?

I agree that Froome is stronger than Contador. However, I believe Froome is not gonna win this tour because his team/support is lousy. We'll see.

Contador's cross-wind time gain will be wiped out by the stage 17 ITT, but it was a good psychological blow.

At the same time, it gave Sky a good reality check with a chance to get their act together.

There are only so many more opportunities for Saxo to "out-smart" Sky. I'm on the fence on this one. Not yet convinced that Froome won't walk away with the GC win.

I'm not sure I'd say Saxo is smarter. The strategy of Sky is to maximize the advantage of having the stronger rider. They force the pace and get it down to very few riders, then let it come down to mano a mano.

A winning strategy when you have the best man. Not fancy, but effective.

Saxo is in a position where they have to get more creative, they look fancier. They are smart and creative. But that does not mean they are smarter.

I don't know. It seems like Froome could beat the peloton alone. Also, this statement was made before Richie Porte ripped the stage apart today.

Here is a story told by running back great John Riggins. His high school or college coach was trying to motivate him. I found it funny and telling:

John, you have athlete A and athlete B. A is always getting plenty of rest. A always eat properly. A follows his workout plans and keeps a log. B on the other hand stays out chasing girls, drinks, eat fast food, and rarely gets enough rest. At the end of the race A stretches out for the win to take it by a nose. John do you want to be A or B? John replies athlete B seems like a very talented guy.

After Stage 14: Looks like Froom does not need a team. :)

I agree with the statement and I also agree with those who say that Froome is good enough to win on his own.

Well, it looks like Froome was the strongest and his team was the smartest- husbanding their diminished resources and shepherding the Yellow Jersey to Paris.

If the numerically stronger teams had had enough firepower to work Froome over, they would have done so. Talking about it over dinner is one thing, putting the strategy into place on the road another.
