Stage 17 ITT 33km largely uphill

If you're interested in how riders tackle the challenge of riding uphill as fast as possible without the aid of team mates then this is the day for you.

If you're one of the "I'm bored" brigade then maybe not.

I will be fast-forwarding a lot of it but anxious to see how the GC contenders perform, particularly Quintana. Froome will undoubtedly win it (posted in the hope that I will be wrong).

Some nasty nasty rain on the course now

Van Garderen must be super happy to have made it in with such a great time right before it started

Anything can happen if it persists or is intermittent.

Just turned it on. I notice that they're not riding TT bikes, and not even all of them have aerobars attached to their drop bars. Is that because it's a hilly TT, or because of the rain, or both?

Well Valverde smashed Van Garderen's time finally, almost 1 min 30s ahead. Lots of riders going faster through earlier sections than he did though.

Evans comes through in 154th o_O

If Froome puts another 45 seconds to a minute on the field i will choke on my cereals and wait for the usual complaints.

This is a day for the Tri-Geeks, probably spawning a 48 page thread about clip ons and how much faster they would have been in sleeveless jerseys.

Amazing, in his interview he says he wasn't even going for it, just wanted to limit his losses

Top 5 riders of today's stage are total dopers. Very entertaining.

Poor Peraud. That was sickening to watch, even for a callous b...... like me.

Contador and Kreuziger might need to gang up with Movistar tomorrow. Irrespective of one's views on doping, it should be an epic stage.

Really? Again? Must every thread about the tour devolve into a conversation about doping?
