VO2 Max Testing

In the article about the release of Froome's power data it stated that he had never had a laboratory VO2 max test done. In a previous article Jonathon Vaughters stated that Garmin doesn't do this test either.

Just curious why they don't since it used to be considered very important both for looking at athletes potential and setting up training plans.

Thanks

I too was interested in that. From what I can gather VO2 max is no longer regarded as definitive in terms of potential for success. Nice to have, but the people with the biggest numbers don't always outperform the rest.

I assume they know what they are doing, maybe it is irrelevant or they can calculate the info needed based on power & HR.

I seem to recall that riders would make or not make the US national team back in the 80's based on VO2 max and that they would always talk about how much capacity Lemond and then Indurain had.
