It looks like Sammy Sanchez will not be retiring now...

He signed an unknown length with BMC. I do like this.

That's good news. BMC will be the better for it. I thought that it was a little weird how much attention we were paying to Horner's search for a contract whilst ignoring Sanchez's predicament. Sanchez hasn't won a GT but he's podiumed on several and he'd considerably younger than Horner- the thought that he wouldn't find a world tour team was even more of a surprise.

I am pretty happy for him. I was a big Euskaltel fan (I lived in the basque country for about 4 years) and I was pretty bummed to see the team fold. It will be interesting to see how Sammy fits into a support role after so many years as the top dog.

there must have been some interesting issues/baggage with that team if it was better for Alonso to start a team from scratch rather than buying into Euskatel

The guy is not bad at all, the main problem with almost all of the euskatel team is that their performances were so erratic that it was a gamble due to lack of consistency. Hope works out because every year BMC becomes a strong team in medals and tittles but not in performances. The good news is that Sanchez can climb a lot. Wish him luck.

IMO what the team needs is to find another "Big George," w/o a guy like that no matter how many world champions you have, probably the team will succumb to egos you know. "Too many crackers, tiny little noise."

At this point I don't even think alonso's team will start at the end of the year.
