He didn't and he lost a stage that was custom-tailored for him to win. Huge blunder.
It seemed like a mutual spite thing, nobody was going to work for Sagan but he wasn't going to work for anyone else either.

The point is, as Bob Roll always says "If you don't go out in the lead you will never win"..and that's exactly what's happened to Sagan repeatedly; he didn't win. And that's what will happen every time he doesn't want to drag some other riders to the leader.

I agree with Mark that Sagan made mistakes on the day, but I think I disagree with what mistake he made. As I recall, he attacked on the final climb, and that attack dropped De Marchi, so he was isolated when Froome and Contador took over and led over the top. BMC, Sky, Astana and AG2R all had multiple riders in the lead group coming down the other side. Sagan had already made one attack and chased down another when Nibali went, so you can understand why he'd think it was someone else's turn. Or maybe he just didn't have enough in the tank to chase Nibali on his own, he did get beaten in the sprint for 2nd by Van Avermaet and Kwiatkowski.

I'm sorry that my reading of something other than VeloNews offends you.
Nothing offends me (this the little smiley thingy), but much amuses me.
