Of course he's in a hurry to grab the bike = 1. he wants to get on it and lose as little time as possible. 2. He can hear the moto coming up behind him and he wants to make sure it doesn't run over his bike!

# 1. Maybe, but at that point he was over 7 minutes out of the GC so i doubt he wanted to get back on that fast.
#2 . Disagree - He never looks back so he has no idea where that motorcycle is. His first instinct should have been to make sure he doesn't get hit by the motorcycle. When you have nothing to lose your not going to put yourself between your bike and a motorbike.

I stand corrected, my friend just showed me this video which clearly shows what may have happened. 41 seconds in TTT crash

Second day in a row Froome comes from behind to dig into the GC overall. He now sits third. He looked beat with a little over 1 k to go then just blew by everyone. Valverde attacked too early.

I have to wonder where Hesjedal would be in the GC had he not got left back on that flat crosswind stage early on and lost all that time.

He's been a monster on the mountain and hilly stages.

Stage 15:

Dan Martin crashes, goes over the barrier, falls 5 metres but still able to get back on the bike and with the help of G-S team mates finishes 7th on stage and moves up on GC.

Looks like neo pro Lawson Craddock (Giant Shimano) either didn't make the cut on stage 14 or abandoned. Giant Shimano's other neo-pro, Chad Haga, seems to be having a good Vuelta debut though.

Stage 16 (Queen) result:

2014 Vuelta a Espaņa Live Video, Stage Previews, Results, Photos, Startlist, TV

Fisticuffs between Brambilla (OPQ) and Rovny (T-S) in the breakaway and ten Km later the commissar throws them both out of the race.

On-bike fighting is clearly a skill neither rider has spent time developing. I think that, if either was serious about hurting the other, he would have dismounted and "taken it to the street." Also, we'd then have found out if cycling is truly a team sport, or not.

if the respective teams dismounted and went after each other like a benches clearing nba or mlb brawl, it would be awesome. a brightly-colored stick-figures fight.

It's a pity Nairo Quintana is out. The dynamics of these stages might have been entirely different.

totally but i can't remember a gt where all the main gc contenders showed up and raced without illness, abandonment, crashes, injuries.
someone is always going to be out of the running whether due to those situations or a team simply leaving them off the roster (i.e. wiggo).

Well I've never had quite the occasion to throw a punch on the bike but I'm betting some knuckles hard in the liver would slow a bike down some on the hills.

Deignan; "Purito's a punchy little bollix, and I'm glad Froomey put a minute into him."

Includes video of the Brambilla/Rovny "fight."

Philip Deignan: 'Rodriguez split my lip with a punch on climb' - Independent.ie

I would just like to point out how happy I am that "bollix" gets past the swear filter on here, and I'm going to try and incorporate it into as many of my posts as possible in the future.

A few well placed body punches off the bike would have slowed Purito down the next day.....missed opportunity there. I don't think I would've let that go by but I don't have everything he has to consider I guess.

Not a Great White Spider fan myself, but it's nice to see him make a race interesting for a change. Hopefully he'll take the next logical step and put some tape over his computer and just ride his bike.
