Your Favorite Pro Cyclist (current/times past)??
Threads like this have been started before. I browse this sub-forum but rarely post.
So here's mine as of now:
Favorite American: Tejay van Garderen. (just because), Greg Lemond is a close second.
Favorite International: Bradley Wiggins. Chris Hoy, another second for me. Jens Voight is up there, too.
Floyd Landis... because he actually admitted what he did... on his own!!
Danny Macaskill: I want his autograph (google him!).

Almost a day has gone by, and no mention of Eddy Merckx yet? 
Sure, he doesn't get any "underdog" points, but he worked hard and put a lot of thought into his bikes and riding, which I dig. And at nearly 70, he still rides a healthy amount.

I liked Ullrich, too. Anyone who binges on beer, cake and recreationals in the off-season is ok by me. I wish people could still actually win major bike races with that kind of ethos.

Hinault. You have to love a guy who would jump off his bike, and throw a decent punch at a jackass spectator---which the Badger did on more than one occasion.

Just imagine how successful Ullrich could have been with a little more personal character/discipline. He was an incredible talent, but personal demons got in the way of being extremely successful. What a shame. He just could not muster enough discipline at controlling his demons, especially in the off-season.

If liking a couple of beers and a 2nd helping of desert, and popping out to the occasional rave, is the only "demons" he has to deal with, I think he's gonna be fine. An objective psychologist might be a bit more concerned about the obsessive and controlling behaviour (Lance) or self-destructive behaviour (Pantani) of some of his old rivals.

I'm really new to watching pro cycling and for some reason I've gravitated towards Contador. I Like climbing (not that I'm good at it) and I love watching his style of riding out of the saddle.

For forgotten man points Felice Gimondi is a favorite also. If he had not had a career that covered exactly the same time frame as Eddy or was not Italian he would be in all the conversations about the best ever. Only 3 riders have won all 3 Grand Tours, the Worlds and Paris Roubaix and everyone else who knows anything about cycling knows the other 2.

I also have a soft spot for Rudi Altig because of the 1962 Tropheo Baracchi.

I agree with him.
To answer the original question, old time fav Lucien van Impe. Had several opportunities to train with him because a team mate was friends with him. Belgian who won six King of the Mountain designations, and then won the Tour.
Newer riders, Contador for Grand Tours. He just rides and he is always there. I also have never seen a rider who stands up more than him. Never looks flustered.
Classics...Cancellara. Along with Boonen, has done the Flanders-Paris-Roubaix double twice, Even Eddy can't say that. Cancellara stays out of trouble, quietly goes about his business of winning.
Also Sagan.
Frankly, the real fun went out when Jens called it quits. I really liked watching him.
