Just got a notice today that my Madone has a front brake issue in need of service and has been recalled due to a potentially unsafe condition. It seems that the bolt affixing the front brake quick release could come loose, which could allow the cable clamp to thereby detach, and thus, maybe result in the loss of front braking ability. As yet no accidents have been reported. About 6800 Madones are affected by this and will be: 1. sold between July and December of 2013. 2. Series- 5.2, 5.9, 6.2, 6.5, 7.7, or 7.9 some of these are Project 1 bikes as well. Serial numbers for recall bikes are available on the Trek website under the safety and recall tab or by contacting the hotline at 800-374-4594. Trek states a new front brake will be installed free of charge and requests that the bike not be ridden any more until the problem has been checked/replaced. Recognizing the imminent dangers of this situation and swiftly executing the recall; Trek added this to the printed notice forwarded to owners...."If this happens, you could have difficulty stopping your bicycle." No Doubt.
Speaking as a wide-eyed, white-knuckled, test pilot of one of these land-based, asphalt eating, cruise missiles I can attest to the fact that hauling one down from escape velocity is a task to which you hope you have enough whoa available to just make a suggestion of coming to a halt. Madones usually prefer to only increase in speed, so slowing is not an activity to which they are accustomed. So yes, I will most certainly be attending to this setback post haste. Thankfully Trek caught this in time, with so many Madones loosed without ever having to scrub off speed....the mind boggles at how many lives that may have already been saved.

Catdaddy please use paragraphs or bullet type post. Hard to read this all jumbled together. I did get the read in however but was difficult due to it looking like a non-spaced written composition.

...with all the usual Trek bashing about, just tried to inform and add a bit of humor. Had no idea there was a 'RECALL' location. Sorry for any feathers ruffled or bad impressions given. I shoulda thought before posting....this place is far too serious for humor....my bad.

Yeah, it really seems like the 41 is a terrible forum to post recall information on Madones. Do some of you jokers really think that more people that need the information will find it in the recall forum over 41?

And to interject a little humor into the 41, oh my.

Seems some in the 41 need a slightly wider saddle.
