gevenalle BURD vs shadow+ rear der
Hey you cxers, I'm rebuilding my race bike to be 1x10, and I'm wondering about people's experience with the Gevenalle BURD vs a shimano clutch rear derailleur. Running a wolf tooth chainring and a not super duper wide cassette, worried about chain drops, slaps, breaking etc.
Is BURD the word? The weight and price are oh so nice, comparatively.

Easy, go with the BURD. The Shadow+ (clutch version, MTB 10 speed) won't work with road shifters. The Shadow (no plus, no clutch, MTB 9 speed) will work with road shifters though.
I went down this road last year, got confused about what was what, figured it out, and ended up sticking with my 105 rear derailleur. The SLX derailleur I bought was SO big and heavy compared to the 105, I just didn't see the benefit by the time I got it all straight.
So yeah, go with the BURD if you have the urge to spend some $$$.

Yeah...
My original plan was to use an Xtr shadow+ rear with the gevenalle gx shifters that can run with it. Which is mechanically correct, I think, and very fancy but very expensive and maybe not worth the fuss, compared with a BURD and the standard gevenalle cx1 shifters.

ah... I think I'd still go with the BURD. Personally, I didn't have any issues with my 1x10 set up. Race Face ring, 105 rear derailleur, loads less to think about when racing.

I haven't used either a clutch derailleur or a BURD, but I can tell you that my next CX rear derailleur is going to be a BURD. The thing that sways me is the replacement policy. Cross racing has a way of breaking rear derailleurs. Having stopped by the Gevenalle tent at a few races and seen the pile of broken derailleurs they'd replaced for people scattered beneath the workstand is enough to convince me.

That's what their website says. Then they do stuff to them, probably most significant is upgrading the pulleys.

Given Both Pulley options are also Made in Taiwan, they likely get that done, assembled, and boxed for shipping Over there ..

I don't think so. It's my understand that most, if not all, of the customizations are done in Portland.

you can wind the spring on a shimano rear mech 180deg tighter. my friend has run his like this for over a year with a narrow/wide ring and never chaindropped.
honestly ive never shredded a mech and best combo imho if going 1X is SRAM with the X9 type2 clutch. i did it to my ridley and its badass level 9000
