Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Opinions wanted on new gravel grinder

I am new here, and am 6'7" and a bit shy of 300lbs. I am obviously looking for a big bike and am looking for a gravel grinder to help me shed weight.

I wanted to reach out to you kind folks to see if you had opinions as to the best bike out of the following options that fit my price range.

Kona Rove AL
Giant Revolt 3
Trek Crossrip Comp or Crossrip

Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated....

Another possibility is an expedition level bike like the surly troll or surly ogre. I'm tempted to pick up a world troll for travel. These are both bikes that you can take over all sorts of terrain.

I think I'm looking to move into drop bars this time. I have a Gary Fisher 26" Hybrid with flat bars and am looking to drop my riding position from that.

Surly Disc Trucker for a complete or custom build up. For your size and weight a solid steel frame with disc brakes is the way I would go.

I am not sure if any of the 3 you have listed will fit you at 6'7". They all max out at 61cm seat tubes.

Depending on your budget look at the Gunner Crosshairs that goes all the way up to 68cm and is cantilever brakes. The Soma DoubleCross disc comes in a 66cm if you want disc brakes. And the Black Mountain Cylcles Moster cross come in a 65cm but is only canti brakes. The Gunnar will be more expensive, but it is made here.

I went with the BMC because I did not need disc brakes and the price was very acctractive. The BMC also has a higher head tube than the Soma and I wanted to get my handle bars up as high as possible without resorting to a lot of spacer.

I am 6'6" and this is where I have my seat post on the 65Ccm. Still a lot more showing that I would like, but the fit works for me.

I think something more along the lines of a Surly Ogre would fit your height. The bike is more MTB in what size tires it can fit, but most of them are fitted with drop bars. The bike can be had at XXL size.
