Speedplay SYZR Cleats (x-post mtb)
I bought the SYZR pedals as soon as I could, I have tried many and so far the best feel I have had while clipped in. However... the cleats are too thick and protrude in all my shoes: Fizik M1, Giro Alpineduro, Chrome and Dromarti.
I want to keep these pedals because I really, really like the feel, but if I dont find a shoe where they are truly recessed I will have to complain to Speedplay and get a refund.
Which are the SPD shoes with thicker lugs?

How do they do in heavy mud? How easy is it to get clipped back in in a hurry (ie in a CX race)?

pedal looks virtually identical to shimano SPD, so I would expect similar mud performance
on edit: maybe not, that cleat looks like it would trap a lot more mud and the grips on the pedal are much wider than the parts on a Shimano. Speedplay has a picture of a mud-covered pedal, but of course it's the cleat that gets fouled.
The speedplay pics show a Sidi shoe, and it looks like the cleats clear.
