Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Cohutta - Big Frog in Georgia/Tennesee?

I'm thinking about the route linked below, a loop around the Cohutta and Big Frog Wildnerness Areas in North Georgia and Tennessee.
The Great Cohutta-Big Frog Gravel Ride (80.1mi/9802ft) - A bike ride in Fannin County, GA
I've driven the southern portions of these roads around Lake Conasauga but haven't been much further north than that. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has done all or part of this route.

I know that bikes are not allowed in the wilderness area and my plan is to stick to the perimeter road. My thought is to start at Dally Gap (Benton Mackaye trailhead) so that the store stop in Cisco is almost exactly half way through the ride. I have read that Dally Gap trailhead is sometimes heavily used. Does anyone know if parking there will be a problem? Is there a better place to start?

Anything else I need to know? Would love to hear your experience.

I have ridden variations of this loop a few times. I have never parked at Dally Gap as I live in the Ellijay area. I'm a little confused about the side trip to the Tibbs trail. It looks like an out and back. You should know that the Forest Service is in the process of closing that trail and blocking access. Suggest that you reach out to Chattanooga Area Mountain Biking group on Facebook for up to date info.

Thanks for the info.

The side trip was just to have a look at Lake Conasauga and maybe take a dip depending on season. It's not set in stone.

Any suggestions on when to ride, direction (clockwise or counter clockwise) or interesting variations would be appreciated.
