Avid Shorty 4 vs. Avid Shorty Ti brakes
Hi,
Got a Lemond Poprad 03 which I picked up new in January. Put around 500 miles on it last month and noticed that the brakes were causing issues.
Anyway, the bike has Avid Shorty 4 brakes. I can pick up a cheapo pair of Avid Shorty Ti brakes, but wanted to know if they were any different than the 4s. I'm not terribly interested in weight savings, nor the "strength" of the brake assembly (ie: I don't care that the metal brake won't crack, etc) , rather I'm curious about stopping power, smoothness, basically the things that help the brake slow down the bike.
Is it worth it to upgrade?

From what I understand all the Avid Shortie calipers are the same. The changes are; The 6s come with different pads, cartridge style. 8s, AKA Ti, have the pads from the 6, and has titanium hardware (Bolts, spring, and stuff). But otherwise they're identical (colour notwithstanding).

I am currently using shorty 6 and I am having issues too with braking. I would even say that my road bike brakes more than my cross and that makes me pretty angry. I think that it might be a problem with all avids, or is it a bad set-up I dunno but I'm tryin to find solutions right now.
Best thing to do first is to buy some good quality brake pads, I just got some Aztec and they seem good appart some squealing wich i'm tryin to solve too...
