All-City Macho Man sizing -- how big do they run?
I know All-City bikes run big. I once tried a 60cm Nature Boy and it was huge.
I'm 6'1" with a 34 inseam (and long arms). My 59cm Surly Steamroller and my XL (59cm) Wilier GTS both fit great.
The Macho Man comes in a 55 and 58. Was at a bike shop over the weekend to try the 58, but none in stock. They had a 55, but at t the time I thought that would be way too small, so I didn't bother to test ride it.
Now I see a 55 (Disc) on CL, and trying to justify a long trip out to look at it.
So, really just a conversation here: Who has a Macho Man and how do you compare its size to your other bikes. How much bigger do they actually run?
And if the actual use of the bike matters, it would be a commuter 85% of the time (replacing the Steamroller -- my 51-year-old knees say it's time), and a camping-type-trail rider the other part of the time.

If you look at the geometry charts, it doesn't seem like they run too large, especially compared to your Steamroller. A couple comparisons:
Top Tube Length
Macho Man (58cm): 585
Steamroller (59 cm): 587
Standover
Macho Man (58cm): 853
Steamroller (59 cm): 835.2
Wheelbase/Chainstay Length
Macho Man (58cm): 1039/435
Steamroller (59 cm): 988.1/398
Also a slacker head tube angle on the MM.
Only issue I can see is a pretty tall standover. Doesn't seem like reach will be an issue, and of course that's more easily tweaked with cockpit parts. The 55cm MM is pretty far off from your Surly- it seems like it'd be too small. Of course the only way to know for sure is trying them in person.

Go try the 55cm at the bike shop. If it fits reasonably, then you have your justification for going to look at the bike on CL. Just buy a couple tubes and a waterbottle to justify using the LBS as a quick demo center.

Well, I went to the LBS, and they had both sizes. The 58 was spot on.
So, instead of buying accessories for their trouble, I bought the damned bike.
Well, to be accurate, I put it on layaway.
I just got myself a Wilier road bike (so I can't really justify two new bikes within a month), and I need to sell my Surly Steamroller fixed gear (because I'm old).
I felt ok with it, because they still had orange (the 2016 model is a less-intriguing Red/White combo). Plus, because it was "last year's model," I got it for $1400.
I'll probably pick it up at the beginning of fall.
