I'm just curious because they aren't one of those brands that you see or hear much about very often. If it's just because they suck at marketing, that's one thing. If it's because their bikes aren't that great, that's another.

I guess the quality of their aluminum frames is the biggest thing for me because components are all but standardized among most bikes out there. Do they even make their own frames? The new Jari looks pretty sweet IMO and checks most of my boxes for about $1500 with the 1.5 build.

FYI, I'm also considering the Spec Sequoia Elite. It's a super nice bike but in steel with hydro brakes and better gearing for $2000. I'm comparing apples and oranges, really, which makes it a tough choice.

Fuji doesnt make its own frames. Neither does Specialized, Raleigh, Diamondback, Trek (except for 2% of their bikes), or most any brand with gravel bikes costing $500- $1800.

Never heard of the model until just now. Nice features like a 3rd bottle cage, bento mount, fender and rack mounts, etc.

Fuji isnt a largely distributed brand anymore, but that bike's design clearly took time. I'd be interesred if i were looking for a disc brake aluminum frame bike.


As mentioned many times here, look at diamondback and raleigh's corporate discount sites. You need to create free accounts. The Raleigh Stuntman and Diamondback Haanjo(many models) could be what younare looking for.

Well, choosing between an Alu and a Steel bike is one thing. To answer your initial question: Fuji bikes are bikes, plain and simple. The prices that they have most of the time come from the fact that they don't have too many bells and whistles compared to some other brands. I was initially going to buy a Fuji bc of the price, but I opted into building my own up. I like that they sell the frameset for ~$500 and the fact that it was included on WTB's "Road Plus Compatibility" list but I digress.

I haven't seen that bike at any shops but one of the LBS near me has both Sequoia models and I test rode the base model and was more than pleased with it. I couldn't justify spending that much on a steel bike but that's just me. I would decide on whether or not you want Steel over Alu and go from there.

These Fuji's are really nice bikes. I've looked at a few at a Performance Bikes. Google for some articles, seems that many reviewers say positive things of the bike.

Thanks! With that discount the Roker Comp looks like a real contender to be my gravel bike. I've never assembled a bike out of the box but I'm reasonably mechanically inclined. Hmmm.

I purchased a 2015 Fuji Altamira CX 1.3 about a year ago on Ebay as new old stock that was never owned. It is a great carbon framed gravel bike with all sram Force components including 1X and Hydraulic disc brakes. The bike has been sensational and totally trouble free. It is just 19lbs which is great for a gravel bike and been extremely comfortable on the gravel races I have done. Allowed me to even win a 50 mile gravel race last fall.

It seems its not as well known as a trek boone or salsa warbird or some of the other more popular brands, but because of this the interest was lower on ebay, and it allowed me to but this new $3200 bike bike for $1270 including shipping. I would strongly recommend the fuJi Bikes based off of my experience, and you may be able to find a bargain like I did.

Fuji has a long history of making frames from thier own facilities. What is your opinion based on? I'd be surprised to learn that they no longer built frames.

Yes, back in the 70s and 80s, even into the early 90s- Fuji built their frames. Fuji was actually one of the last brands to shift from Japan to Taiwan after the yen collapse of the late 80s.
Holding out on a shift to Taiwan made their bikes more expensive, which in turn reduced market share, and Fuji eventually went bankrupt in the late 90s(both the US distribution company and the main company). Fuji also missed the MTB craze big time which hurt them.

ASI bought the Fuji name for domestic use in the late 90s. ASI was then partially acquired by a Taiwanese bike manufacturer in the mid 00s. ASI purchased Performance Bicycle a year or two ago. Performance owns Nashbar.

So it goes like this-

- Taiwan bike manufacturer Ideal partly owns ASI's Asia presence.
- ASI owns Fuji.
- ASI owns Performance and Nashbar where Fuji is commonly sold.

The Fuji brand's frames are made in Taiwan, China, and Poland by ASI's part owner, Ideal.





All that said- I would buy a new Fuji bike if one fit my wants and needs. The bikes ASI has put on the market for close to 2 decades are really solid. They arent groundbreaking design, but not everything needs to be or should be.
A Fuji Touring bike has some of the best spec for the $ of any touring bike around. It has as much value as a Trek 520 at 60% the cost.
...but no, Fuji isnt a manufacturer any longer.

So, who designed the Nashbar bikes? Are they in essence similar in design to Fuji models (which periodically get professional reviews)

Interesting question. I have no idea, but can say that in years past, the Nashbar touring frame looked eerily similar to the Fuji Touring frame. That was before ASI bought Performance which owns Nashbar, but perhaps there was a partnership/relationship between companies and the common frame company which ultimately put the wheel in motion for ASI to buy Performance.

Absolutely a total guess.

Fuji bikes are very solid and on par with Giant. The Jari i would have went with over my stuntman except the clearance.

I actually just purchased a Jari 1.1 frameset today. Doing my own custom setup. I'll post pictures when it's done.

p.s. I sold Salsa Warbird 2 Frameset for this...Hope its worth it.

I've been enjoying my Fuji Sportif for four years with absolutely zero issues. I wouldn't get caught up with the pedigree; bike manufacturing is pretty convoluted across the board. If I was in the market for a new bike today, it would likely be a Jari. It has been a very well-reviewed bike, from what I've seen. Good luck!

Good looking bike. I've owned two fujis, a cross which I sold and the touring model. Both are fine bikes and excellent value for money. I also rented the Fuji Tread and rode it for a week in Washington over some pretty terrain. I was impressed with the bike.

From what I've seen, Fujis are nicely spec'd, good value, and well designed.

The 1.3 looks like a very solid choice. Still, the Raleigh steel bikes with the corporate discount is the way I would go personally.

Late reply but whatever. I have a nashbar carbon CX frame and it is just an older version of the Fuji Altamira CX without the stickers. Now if they are just left overs or they are still making new ones I don't know.

I have a 2011 Fuji Cross 2.0. It has performed well and is one of my favorite bikes. I also have 2 good friends that have Fuji road bikes, they love them too.
