Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Pedal/shoe Combo for new Poprad

Hey Guys,

I just got a Poprad and I'm looking for a pedal/shoe combo under $200. I wanted to know what your recommendations are. I'm not sure if I should go with a mountain setup or a road. I was thinking about putting slicks later this year and entering a few local races in the spring. Thanks!

Who cares what it LOOKS LIKE! Its a CX bike, its gonna be covered in mud and crap anyway - besides the fact nobody is going to be really drooling over a regular old CX bike. Its not a fancy road machine, its a hardcore mud and crap blaster. Get what works.

Yeah, who cares what it looks like... by the way, those pedals would look sweet on that bike.

I use the Shimano M520 pedals. I prefer the mtn setup b/c the shoes are easier to walk around it.

Thats what I use, with Shimano SD-60 Sandals, even on rough rocky singletrack. I have MO38 shoes, but have used them only once.

Like Jarery, I'm also using Time ATAC pedals and Shimano M152 shoes. I use this combo on my mountain bike and fixed-gear bike. They seem to work well in all sorts of conditions. Although for racing cyclocross, I prefer to wear shoes with laces (ancient Diadora Jalapeno's), as I don't trust velcro closures in really sticky mud. I don't know if Shimano still makes the 152's. I found mine at Nashbar for $60. I got the pedals from Pricepoint.com for about $55. This was a few years ago, though, so I don't know if they are still on the market.
