Anyone run Ritchey ZED pro tires?

I'm thinking I'd like to put a really wide aggressive tire on my CX bike. Anyone run the Ritchey zed pro 42c tires? I'd like to know how wide they actually are, to see if I can fit them in my frame. Most tires are quite a bit smaller than they are marked, and it varies a lot from brand to brand. Thanks for your help.

Yep, I've got a set. I'd say they are around 1.5" wide compared to a mountain bike tire. I got them to do a mountain race on my cross bike, they were pretty good and very light for a 42 tire, lots of traction too. They are a pain in the a** to get on a road rim though, the bead doesn't want to stay in a keeps popping out, which sucked balls when I got a flat in that race, lost many places because of that. Anyway, definitely worth trying, a friend of mine has the 45mm version of the Fire XC pro's, heavier than the ritcheys but probably much tougher.

Did you ever find the answer to this? I'm looking at the ZEDs as a possible snow-and-slush commuter; I don't want or need studded tires in the city, but something a little better than a slick might be desireable...

Try the michelin Mud 2. I just got a pair for my first 'cross race last weekend and I rode them around here on the street across packed snow and some ice and they worked well. The race was in grand rapids MI and we had plenty of snow on the ground. I had almost no problems with traction. I think the square knob pattern of the Mud 2s would work better than semi paddle tread of the excavader (I was also considering the excavader and took a look at them as well) IMHO

Yeah, I'm also looking at the Michelins - but I'm going to be on pavement a lot more than on packed snow and ice, and people report that the Michelins wear really, really quickly on pavement due to soft rubber. :(

I am using these on my mtb that I converted to 700c and the clearance in the front with a Kelly cross fork is fine, the clearance in back is pretty close at the chainstays, plenty of room at the seat stays. This would not have worked on my Kelly cross bike in the rear due to seatstay clearance. I would not use these in the rear if it were muddy, either. I did about 10 cx races on these, mostly dry courses with PSI from 35 to 50 at a weight of 70kg. Probably could have gone even lower but maybe next year... These make the bike noticeably higher off the ground.
