Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I love cross - I hate barriers - If cross didn't have barriers, I'd hate cross - go figure.

I liked the fact that the barriers at our race were anchored (on the run-ups).

You wouldn't like them as much if you ran into one - like I did (oops).

I think Cross without barriers would be pretty weird..almost like road racing!!!

Especially after I've prefected my getting off the bike and jumping back on again...bloody typical!

Hehe

You are going to be a copper Rich? Do they have bike cops in Kent? Do British cops have an equivalent to PBA cards?

Well,

It's funny you should say...they have bike cops in London, and also Surrey, but as far as I know none in Kent!

I went to a local fair about bike saftey just a walk away from work one lunchtime, and the London City Bike Police were there with all their gear.

I asked their advice about setting up a patrol in Kent and they seemed very helpful...even offering to pass over their reports on how the project was progressing.

The only problem I could see is that a bike patrol in Kent wouldn't be as effective as one in a city...what with distribution being a problem in a rural setting and the area that needs coverage. Still, it'd look good if I offered to look into setting one up..eh.

All I need now is a flashing blue light on my helmet and I'd be set

The cops here use the Niterider Digital Patrol. I imagine the fellows in London had something similar. The lights flash alternately and the siren is piercing. This is a rural area, bikes are used primarily for patrolling sporting events, fairs, concerts and such.

I thought you would have a little stronger reaction than that. It wouldn't even be the same sport, I think you could have ridden every run-up in our race with a mountain bike (were the course dry) had there not been any barriers. Like the man said, short track cross country.
