Question about Motobecane Fantom Cross Pro

Notices
Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Question about Motobecane Fantom Cross Pro

Please, don't turn this into a BikesDirect thread, just a general question I have about this bike, and possibly Cross bikes in general. I'm a roadie, looking to get a bad weather bike, so decided a cross bike will be the way to go for me. I'm 5ft 7inches and ride a size 52 Specialized Roubaix Pro. Looking at the geometry on the Fantom Cross Pro, I think I should be going with a 49 sized frame? Do Cross bikes run bigger than road bikes. I'm not gonna be racing this so I don't need the ability to quickly throw the bike over my shoulder. I'll be using the bike mainly on the roads, with some rails to trails thrown in occasionaly. Anyone that has this bike have any advice on the sizing? Thanks for any input...

the oversimplified version of what i've observed is that cross bikes will have a shorter seat and headtube than a road bike of equivalent top tube length. i'd look for a cross bike with the same top tube as your road bike and not worry about the "size" indicated by the manufacturer.

I had a Fantom cross, size 54cm for 5'9" body with 29-30" pant inseam. I now have a 54 cm Cross Check and find that the stand-over with the Cross Check is slightly more forgiving than with the Fantom Cross. Also, the top tube length is shorter on the Cross Check. All in all, the difference was small enough that with either frame, I fit the 54cm, just one a tad more comfortable than the other.
