Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Low spoke count cross wheelset

Any recomendations for a low spoke count cross wheelset that won't break the bank? Just browsing on ebay and some online stores, I see that machine made low spoke count wheels are pretty cheap. I always worry that they won't be strong enough even in limited off road conditions. I'm using Campy Zondas on my road bike but wouldn't dare take it off road.

There's a set of Campagnolo Sciroccos on ebay right now. I have a set on my cross bike and love them.

As far as road wheels go, I've heard great things about them. What kind of abuse have you given them? I have a set of Chorus hubs laced to OP 32 hole rims that went out of true over very mild terrain. Could be becuase they are 10 years old too.

I weight about 180lbs and have ridden off road a bit and at decent speeds. I'll go fast enough to make my hands tingle from the vibrations. I have not ridden on very technical terrain nor I have not done any cyclocross racing, but I think the kind of curb-hopping I do is a little rougher than a course. The hubs are sealed and are holding up fine so far. If they go i can always spring for those Cane Creek Strados disc wheels. ;-)
