Wider Drops for SS CX?
I'm going to run a single speed cross bike at Porky Gulch.

And I'm thinking of switching my 42cm drop bars to 46cm for more leverage.
Any thoughts on this?
It will be my first cross race.

Yes. Use them before hand so they feel natural, but yes. The extra leverage will help.

Leverage is crucial for any ss. You need it to compensate for a lack of gears. That looks like an awesome race...

Thanks for the replies. I put the bars on an they look even wider on the bike! I haven't had the chance to try them as I wait for tire glue to cure.
The race looks like a blast! I hope they have the cheesey Story land music playing during the race!
I've done the Mt Washington hillclimb before so no worries there. I saw my first CX race in Gloucester last weekend and that got me off the fence and into this race. Cross looks like it could be the new addiction.

Yup, they felt strange at first but after a few minutes they were like my best friend in handle bars. I got a bar with less drop too.
Can't wait for the race!

I just put a pair of WTB Dirt Drops on my San Jose this weekend. It's mostly a commuter/pit bike, but I think it'll make it out to at least one race this year.
The wider bars make a significant difference in the climbs. And it looks totally sweet.

Go get your bad self the Midge drop bar by on-one. Look to www.zedsport.com for a list of US distributors.
The one drop bar to rule them all! Short and shallow drop, plenty of flare, brake levers are within easy reach, secure. Can't beat 'em!
