Chain rub on guard... ideas?
I've recently switched my bike to a single chainring. All in all I really like it, but my chain rubs in the two smallest cogs of my cassette. I need those two cogs when on the road since I'm running such a small chainring.
Configuration: TruVativ Elita Cross GXP External Bottom Bracket 39T mounted on the inside BBG Bashguard mounted outside - 42T max Redline Chain Keeper SRAM PG950 9 spd cassette, 12-26 What are some suggestions to try? Guard and chainring closer to the same size? Longer spindle? Washers to push the guard out a bit? TIA! Kirk |
I run a "similar" single chainring 36t w/ 42t franken-grind guard. But I haven't noticed any rub on the guard. I think the washers/spacers inside the guard would be the easiest/cheapest way to go. You may want to get sets of various gauges to eliminate the dreaded "gotta go back to the shop again". Hope you solve the problem.

What is your chainline like? It may be possable that you need to install a size larger bottom bracket.
