For the want of a tire a kingdom was lost...
i just want to share my misfortune with you. at the race yesterday near quebec city, after a particularly bad start [everyone had a bad start -- switchbacks within ten metres of the line... sigh...] i flatted about halfway into the first lap. i was halfway from the pit and had to abandon.
sucks.
i actually did okay on that course last year. it was not to be this year.

well... it was the tube. on inspection, it seems to be a pinch flat. i was running low pressure thanks to the bog, and i think i pinched it in the pileup on the second set of switchbacks.

I have a 2000 Voodoo Limba.I use this as my road bike too so I put on Ultegra 53/39 cranks with a 12-27 cassette.I have the Michelin muds and a pair of Ritchey tires.The bike came with Time pedals but I think I'm going to get some Egg Beaters this month.Have you tried the Eggs?

I use the eggbeaters (the regular ones, not the candy ones). I love them, and they always work great in the mud. I don't really have problems with them, but I see how some people might not like the lack of platform of the regular ones. The feel is really similar to my old time atac pedals. See if you can try a pair (of the non caged ones) if that is what you are looking at before you buy them, or go for the candy model.

Do you have to twist your foot far to get out of the Eggs?The twist is too far for me on the Times even on the easy release setting.I like the release point of the Ritchey pedals.

I find Egg Beaters very easy to release from. The twist does not seem at all excessive. The cleats are actually different to facilitate this. One has a smaller release angle and is intended for whichever shoe you normally unclip first. But even the other side unclips easily though an accidental release on either side is highly unlikely. I have original Egg Beaters on all 5 of my bikes, and I can't see ever using anything else. It is hard to describe just how easy it is to click in when you don't have to worry about which side is up. I was using Looks before and thought they were great, but I immediately fell in love with Egg Beaters.

I tried the reg. Egg Beaters a couple of days ago and loved them.As easy as the Times to get into and as easy as Ritchey's to get out of.I ordered the Ti.Eggs yesterday.Should be sweet.
