Front hub, road ot mtb??

So I see some cross bikes come with a front mtb hub and rear road hub. Is there any reason for this? I ask because I am rebuilding a set of wheels (rims cracked) that currently have ultegra hubs on it. I am relacing them to DT Swiss RR1.2 and I have the option of using a different front hub. So is there any reason to go with an mtb front hub? I use the bike to commute, ride fire roads, road race and will be doing about 3-5 cross races in the fall.
