Mavic Open Pros...for Cross.

i'm building up a cyclocross bike and right now i'm scouring for rims. i want to be able to ride a pretty skinny cross tire most of the time, maybe 30-32, all the while be able to put something super beefy on it: 40? anyway, i love mavic rims and am stuck on them and i would like to use the Open Pro. however, Mavic says the recommended tire width for the rim is between 19-28 mm. will it not allow for a larger tire? has anyone experienced otherwise?

I run 35 mm tires on my open pros for cross....and 35 mm studded tires for icy commuting. No problems so far.

I've run 40mm on both Open Pros and CXP 33s, which I believe are the same width. No worries about cross racing.

The deeper the rim the better the mud shedding - mavic cxp33 or velocity deepV may be better choices.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

velocity deep v's might as well be made of lead. really heavy! try the salsa delgado rims. light, strong, and you can run a big ass tire on there.

I have a somewhat similar dilemma. I have an extra set of Ksyrium Elites... I know that it may be ridiculous, but could I use them for a cyclocross frame that I'm thinking of building up?
