Of Campy and Cantis
OK, lets say we want to put together a Campy cross bike. It's getting painfully hard and expensive to find vintage Campy MTB cantilevers. What would be a suitable substitute? I have tons of Shimano cantis in my parts box now. Problem is they might not get along too well on the same bike.

why wouldn't it work?
the only problem would be the opinions of form-before-function pedants that would scoff at shimano stuff on a primarily campy bike.

Another option would be Avid's. Yes, they're a SRAM product, but that's not as offensive to some as putting Shimano on a Campy bike. They're relatively cheap, too.

Everything I've read about the IRDs is positive, including Grant Petersen's stamp of approval, which to me means a lot. They're not nearly as pricey as Pauls, which for me would be choice #1 if money were no object.
