Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Felt F1X vs. Trek XO1 vs. RX7?

Looking to commute on city streets and here are my options:

Felt F1X - $1209
Trek XO1 - $1350
Cannondale RX7 - $1800 (love the frame - but seems way too expensive)
Tricross Sport - $1300

I'm leaning towards the Felt F1X because it's cheaper AND has better components including an Ultegra Rear Derailleur.

So I ask you ladies and gentlemen - what would you go for? Feel free to rank them by order of preference too.

I think that the price on the RX7 is wrong. Its closer to 1400. You should consider the RX6 instead, and its even cheaper.

Intended use of bike---

Looking to commute on city streets and here are my options:
I suggest the XR7 C'dale, I just purchased one 2 weeks ago and simply love riding it, and have had no issues other than getting the bike shop to adjust the rear derailleur for overtravel. Other than that, I am riding it every day, and no squeaks, rattles or breakages.

The bike I purchased was not as expensive as what you quoted, mine was $1299.

My 2nd choice would have been the Trek XO1, but you wont regret the Cannondale XR7.

Shop around, perhaps you were looking at the 2009 model??

Cannondale XR7 $1299
XR6 $1249
2008 Models at the bike shop I dealt with.

I'm really happy with my F1X.........with the exception of the stock brakes they just flat suck, but even replacing them it's still cheaper the an the others.

That being said what fits you best and which shop provides the best after the sale support?

I've got both X0-1 (2006) and F1X (2007) ... The XO was really basic but a good work horse.. but I will be using my F1X as my race rig this year. I havent seen the new XO lately but in referring to mine it makes a DECENT entry level bike but doesnt have the nice little touches such as a flat top tube near the seat stay for carrying like the F1X does... the Mavic rims are a bit on the heavy side but make good trainers on the F1X where as the Bontragers on XO are much lighter... hmmm.. thats pretty much it other than the previously stated dérailleurs differences...

I tried my hand at cyclocross racing a couple of years ago and had a 2006 Felt F1X. It's a great bike and superior to the Trek XO1 IMHO. That said, the geometry on the F1X is very race-oriented: steep seat tube, short head tube, relatively short top tube. I kept mine as a commuter through summer of 2007, then I bought a Cross Check and put the 105/Ultegra drivetrain from the F1X on it and have been pleased.

I guess I realized that a race-oriented aluminum bike wasn't the best commuter for me. I'm not a fan of the XO1 or Tricross Sport. The Felt was a great bike, and I like the Cannondale too.
