08 Poprad Disc Shudder Repair
 

Hello. I have been searching quite a few threads trying to find out the best way to remedy the front fork shuddering issue that I have been having on my bike. Some people feel that it is the brakes(pads wearing incorrectly, wrong pads, use different rotor, need a beefier fork, etc.) I am looking for a fix to this problem. Has anyone with a poprad disc found a way to fix this problem? I like the bike alot but it is new and It is really a worry on the road. Any help would be much appreciated here!

I have the same bike as you... I've only had it shudder once when it still had under 200 miles ... going downhill in a typical heavy spring shower. it seemed to happen from applying even light pressure to both brakes... the one brakes wasn't worn in enough and was fluctuating a bit in pressure every revolution causing the shuddering...

did your LBS give you any instructions or advice with regards to breaking in your disc brakes? from what i understand, once you wear though the outer coating of the pads the grabbing power will increase dramatically and they should be better in general..


once they get broken in and stuff, you'll love em... they will grab very well

Does anyone else have any input here? I am about to bring the bike back in to the shop tommorow and I want to have some solid input as to wether the issue is with the forks or with improperly set up disc brakes. Thanks!

I also have the 08 disc and have a little shudder. When you spin your wheel and look at the rotor between the pads does the distance between rotor and pads stay uniform the whole way around? I suspect that if the rotor and pads aren't flush to one another that periodic fluctuation may cause some shudder. When I first got my bike the front rotor rubbed the outside pad slightly on each rotation. I adjusted the pad out a click to stop the rubbing, but I plan on realigning the front brake to really take care of it and I'm wondering if that'll fix the shudder as well.

The pads breaking in are also something to keep in mind. I've noticed a huge difference now that I've ridden a bit. The shudder seems less prevalent, but it's still happens.

having your LBS check them out is always smart, most shops should look at it for no cost while it is still new... I personally think you just need to wear them in first, but in order to know for sure, one would have to look at the bike and your LBS should be able to do that well...
