Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Why is my Fuji Cross Comp so heavy?

I bought a 2008 Fuji Cross Comp a few weeks ago in preparation for the local CX race series. I love the bike and got a sick deal on it at a Performance retail store. The problem is the weight. It's just over 23 lbs! I love the way it rides but lifting it and carrying it is a drag. Here are the specs: https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...Comp&Type=bike

1. What is making it so heavy? (the 2007 was 2 lbs lighter)
2. how could I make it lighter?

Thanks

If it's a stock setup, the biggest weight offenders are probably the wheels and the house-brand cockpit parts (seatpost/stem/bar). Also of note is the fork with a steel steerer.

I don't know those wheels but 32 spoke wheels are typically heavy but very strong.

My road race bike is 24 pounds, so my cross bike is actually lighter. Wheels are a place where companies sneak in cheaper components and hope nobody notices. You may find you have a cheap and nasty crank too. You could buy some snazzy TA or Stronglight rings as a replacement.

Thanks for the replies y'all! I'm not going to modify anything this season but I'm going to keep my eye out for some light tubulars for next year.

Definately the wheels, to some extent the fork as well. Also the stem/bars/post, as noted.

It's all about the wheels.
