Best tires for dealing with broken glass?
Okay, it's not a pure cyclocross question, but I also ride my cyclocross bike for training pre-dawn during the week. Our roads tend to have a lot of broken glass on the shoulders (impossible to see in the darkness).
What are the tires with the best combination of cyclocross performance and resistance to broken glass? I notice Vittoria offers several levels of protection in the Randonneur line. Which of these (or others) would provide great cut resistance without being slow and sluggish?

If you want a slick road tire in a 700x28 size or smaller size, consider Continental Gatorskins. If you want a tread-ed tire in larger sizes, consider the Specialized Armadillo.

Specialized's Borough CX Armadillo Elite looks perfect -- but their website is out of them and there are no Specialized dealers within 50 miles of here.
Has anyone tried the Vittoria Randonneur cyclocross version?

That being said, I have been thrilled with the Panaracer T-Serv. I have been over quite a bit of broken auto glass with no issues to date.

Replacement for Maxxis
My X7 Cannondale CXcross came with Maxxis tires, and they are already cracking, and I liked all the tires everyone mentioned here in this forum thread.
Only had the X7 for 3 months and tires already shot...not due to any type of rough riding, just normal streets and gravel trails. I like the Vitorria tires mentioned. Maybe that will replace the Maxxis, I hate glass and hate using liners ......................

I don't have experience with Maxxis, but I have been surprised by the rapid wear with the Hutchinson Bulldogs that came on the bike. After only about 300 to 350 miles, the front is fine, but the knobs on the rear tire are worn at least halfway. It's an amazing contrast. Except for just the center row, the front knobs still have fine molding details visible. On the rear knobs, the center row is worn way down and the rows on either side are worn into a wedge shape.
These are supposedly great tires -- are they for mud only?

Cross tires aren't particularly shard resistant because the emphasis is on casing deformation for more traction and better ride. You should consider commuting tires like Schwalbe Marathons, which are heavier but absolutely more puncture resistant.
