29er for cx

Read some search results and want to get opinions on this.

I've got a Specialized Tricross Comp that I use as a commuter and for rec rides on the weekend. I don't want to use it for cx as I've converted a lot of the cross parts to road parts.

I have a Orbea Lanza 29er hard tail that I was thinking I might use for this years cross season. Seems like it'd work. It's 22lbs, has a Reba Rock Shox lock out capable fork. I was thinking that switching the tires for CX tires, I should be good to go.

Think this would be a competitive (compared to a dedicated CX bike) bike for racing in the lower levels?

Edit: Reason I don't want to use the Tricross is it's my main bike and I did use it last year for CX and I beat the living hell out of it so I don't think it would last long doing double duty.

I've got a buddy who raced a 29er this last weekend and finished 2nd in the 3/4 35+. Put some skinny tires on there and go for it.

I personally don't give a crap what bike you race on. If you, on the other hand, care how well you place in a race, you should ride the bike you deem fastest. If you don't care how well you place, on the other hand, then it really doesn't matter what bike you ride.

There's only one person who can make this decision.

It'll work just fine. Get some decent cross tires and you'll be good to go (lose the bar ends).

Sure, I'm half tempted to use my 29er in some of the gnarlier races this year. I probably won't, but it could work. It'll be a decent backup bike at least.

I'm using my 29er for this season, I did a post on it on mtbr ( https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=455388 ) and posted some photos of it here ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/bobbotr...7607574978203/ ). I like it!
