Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Because much to my optometrist's displeasure, I'm too cheap to buy prescription sunglasses.

I find that my sunglasses start to fall off my face because of the terrain. I end up tossing them into the pit if I do wear them.

Cheap tip: prescription sunglasses online - like $50 shipped. Not fashion forward at that price, but cheap and they're sunglasses and you won't cry when you crash them. Google around there's lots of places - they're cheap. Not bad for kids or other limited lifespan glasses either.

i wear contacts and regular eye glasses but i dont have prescription sunglasses. i can only wear my sunglasses with my contacts. however, i just found out that i cant ride fast if i wear contacts because i tend to keep my eyes open over fast sections and they come out. therefore, i have to wear my regular glasses if i race or ride fast. they work fine. you lose some "cool" factor but oh well.

Seriously? Wear them or don't wear them. You will suck regardless. You'll get to the first barrier section, and be thinking, Hey, maybe I shouldn't have worn my sunglasses! and then you'll prance over the barrier section all slow and grandmothery, and 10 out-of-shape ****heads will pass you and you'll feel like puking, and you'll wish you never thought about racing cross.

Good luck, dumbass.

flargle, turn that frown upside down.

In dry conditions I wear glasses because otherwise I always seem to end up with dirt/dust in my eyes.

In wet conditions I skip glasses because the lenses just get covered in mud spatter and become more trouble than they're worth. At least you can kind of blink mud out of your eyes. Wiping the dirt/mud/snow off your glasses during a 'cross race is an exercise in futility.

1+, my contacts have never fallen out during a ride or race. Maybe you're wearing RGP's. In that case, you should consider getting fit with soft contacts for racing.

I wear sunglasses during 'cross races until they get covered in mud, at which point I toss them.

I'm an optometrist, and no, I don't care if you wear sunglasses or not. They are your eyes, do as you please.

I think flargle should be a verb.

i.e. "he flargled the F out of that guy" -or- "oh snap! you just got flargled!"

i find that i see better w/out sunglasses. the risk of eye injury sucks, but who wants to see anyway. oh wait....

Well you have to weigh the risk of eye injury vs. the risk of injury from crashing due to not seeing well because your glasses are obstructing your vision.

"I fractured my leg because I didn't see the barrier section in time, but my eyes are fine"
