Is 2008 Kona Jake for $550 a good deal?
 

Hi all, looking to pick up my first cross bike and I saw an ad for this bike (all stock), used-not new, for this much. I don't know too much about Kona and most likely be using the bike for commuting, light trails and light touring. Does anyone know how this bike stacks up and any other information I might want to consider before cashing out what's left of my 401k? (Just kidding about the 401k, mostly)

The MSRP was $849. If it hasn't been *abused* (no obvious signs of wear, scratches, dents, etc.) $550 is a good price. A Kona Jake the Snake was one of the top 3 bikes I considered before getting my commuter bike in December 2004.

I've got a 2008 Kona Jake and I wouldn't even consider selling it for that price. Mostly that's because I wouldn't consider selling it. It's a great bike. I use it for commuting, centuries, cyclocross, light trails, etc.

Of course, make sure it's the right size for you. It's no bargain if it doesn't fit.

Kona's are excellent bikes. they are wildly popular here in the pacific northwest where we ride in mud and rain a lot. IMHO Jake's are the standard.

I got a Jake The Snake for cross racing because it was cheap and my size, never considered a Kona before but I have to say I love it.

$550 is a decent deal.

1. Are you sure the size is right?
2. Is it in good shape and not busted?
3. Are all the parts there (not swapped out by the seller) ?

If those 3 things check out, go for it.
I know if I came across that deal a few months ago, I'd have bought it.

I say no. That's what I bought (and sold) my Jake the Snake for.
