thinking about single speed

I just got my Cross check rolling and I having thoughts about going single. My question is: can I use my
'08 Shimano 105 5600 double crank as a single?

yes. i dont know if that is a compact or not so chainring sizing could come into play. i have a older 105 (bcd 130) on my single speed.

most run a 42 with either a 12-25 or 12-27
